The recordings were made in 2009 and 2010 by Pascal Bonnefoy, Liliane Bettencourt's butler, at the latter's home. They were made using a dictaphone-spy placed on a sideboard, hidden under a baize, on the first floor of Liliane Bettencourt's private mansion, in Neuilly-sur-Seine1.

Still according to the recordings, Patrice de Maistre claims to have hired Florence Woerth within Clymène at the request of her husband and "would have made her accept Liliane Bettencourt a payment of money for Éric Woerth but also for Valerie Pécresse and for Nicolas Sarkozy6 during the campaign for March 2010 regional elections, in the amount of 7 €Notes 1.
