The oceans invaded by killer bacteria?
A study by the American Academy of Sciences evokes the serious risk of seeing the coasts of the North Atlantic invaded by pathogenic bacteria.
It is the massive increase in the number of cases of gastroenteritis in humans residing along the US and European North Atlantic coasts that has alerted scientists.
Atlantic Ocean: the rise in temperature favors the proliferation of bacteria
Rita Colwell, a microbiologist at the University of Maryland, claims to be able to demonstrate that " theincrease in the number of bacteria in the Atlantic Ocean – probably a doubling or even a tripling – is directly linked to the increase in global temperatures, and also directly correlated to the increase in bacterial infections recorded by medical statistics ».
