Adidas criticized for promoting its “SlaveryShoes”

When I found the info at maha I believed in a photo montage, but no you're not dreaming...

Adidas is announcing a pair of bright orange-colored sneakers with 'shackles' that match the ankles of the wearer. The JS Roundhouse, which should hit shelves in August, debuted on the original Adidas Facebook page on June 14th. Several forums and blogs have already compared orange "bracelets" to the shackles used on black slaves in 19th century America and by prisoners today.

The promotional copy for this online Facebook shoe ad reads: "You got a basketball game so hot you lock your kicks to your ankles?" But activists and Facebook users reacted angrily to Adidas' premise of promoting slavery with these hobble shoes.

More than 2000 Facebook users flagged the shoes as 'offensive' and told Adidas it was 'ignorant' for the insensitive promotional campaign.
