Has consciousness been discovered in the brain?

I'm sure the military will be very interested, and for the conscience of the animals, each one his intimate conviction... ; ) For the rest the same...; )

A vast array of techniques for taking over and controlling the human mind is being put in place. Besides that, the means used by publicists to guide our purchases without our knowledge are tiny trifles. Three years ago, a scientific complex was set up, financed by part of the European countries. It's'Human Brain Project or human brain project. It was simply a question of creating a computer as powerful as the brain, which is not easy, since our cranium would contain one hundred billion brain cells. I told this incredible case two years ago in the first edition of my book The Ultimate Transgression. Since then, things have evolved. All European countries finance Neuropolis, an entire town near Lausanne dedicated to this project. The Americans, for good measure, got into it: it will simply be Brain (brain).

In three years things have accelerated. Research has made it possible to evacuate and reinject the memories that we have in our heads. Computer chips or lasers installed in the skull are likely to modify our behavior (this is the brain/machine interface).

However, at the end of the fifty or so conferences given by myself in France about the book cited above, a good question always came up that I did not thank for having asked me. That of the soul and that of the conscience. The soul principle of life that atheists reject. Self-awareness that animals do not have. Do they reside in the brain? Some neuroscientists believe they have proven yes. They even claim to be able to make it disappear just as one turns off the light.

There is a thin strip of gray matter that runs along the side of the ventricles which are the chambers of the brain. She is called the cloister.

The team of Professor Mahammad Koubeissi of the University of Washington, installed an electrode at the level of the cloister of an epileptic woman. Intervention in practice has become commonplace in the case of epilepsy, but not in this place; this is the first time that such an area has been stimulated in this way. After electrical stimulation, this woman no longer spoke, no longer heard, no longer responded, no longer saw. She was no longer aware of herself. Then she lost consciousness. When the stimulation stopped, she suddenly came to her senses and had no memory of what had happened. This could have been repeated several times in two days. They were asked, for example, to repeat the word “house”: the person repeated it more and more weakly as they fell into unconsciousness. (Ref: Latest issue of the review Epilepsy and Behavior).

The definitive question is this. Consciousness, of course: discovery of an element of “man-machine” as understood by Voltaire or Marat, for example. Is the brain comparable to an immense clockwork mechanism; we would say today an unknown computer that would be decrypted over time? To this, a certain number of minority scholars, it is true, believe that there is an immaterial form of consciousness. But other researchers believe that quantum will provide an answer. This opens a door to the discovery of the universe existing beyond the size of the molecule. It would therefore only be to find a second key to understanding consciousness. For them there would be a kind of innate consciousness emanating from a conductor whom they hope to track down one day by their science, but without much conviction. This is where they are worried because they dare not pronounce the name of "God".
