Barely marketed, the new iPhone 5 already hacked...

Good, the CCC they are not really funny, even if its French counterpart was a government appendix, but hey, don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Personally, I feel like I'm living in a science fiction film, a bit like " Welcome to Gattaca orother...: (hey, if you haven't seen it, I'll have to pass it on to you on a Friday evening anyway (well, if I find it!); )

Francetv info - Barely marketed, the new iPhone 5 already hacked

No need to cut off its owner's finger: to unlock another iPhone 5S than yours with TouchID technology, all you need is a good photo. German hackers have indeed succeeded in thwarting the digital recognition system of the new iphone 5s, relays France Info, Monday, September 23rd. Barely marketed, the smartphone was put in the hands of the Chaos Computer Club, a large group of hackers in Europe.

They explain their method on their website (English). They actually started from a photograph of a finger, of which they exploited the imprint. From this high-resolution image, they made a fake latex skin, which reproduces the original imprint identically. Thanks to this thin film, they managed to unlock the iPhone, as shown in this video. “This again demonstrates that biometric technologies related to fingerprints are not suitable for access control and should be avoided”, conclude the hackers.
