It's normal, there are only 15% of French people who got Macron elected, tax evaders, the haves of globalization, and people handpicked via Big-Data... And you ? (Additional information at the bottom of the article).
While social movements are declared in the country, the policy initiated by the executive finds a majority of criticism among the French, according to the new poll "L'Opinion en direct" from the Elabe Institute for BFMTV.
The executive enters the hard. According to the new "L'Opinion en direct" poll conducted by the Elabe Institute for BFMTV, which we publish this Wednesday on the eve of a strike day having to mobilize large sections of the public service, the French are now very numerous to be critical of the policy pursued by the executive. If 58% of French people consider it to be in line with the commitments made during the presidential campaign, they are indeed 74% to say it is "unfair", an increase of six points compared to the previous measurement in this regard three weeks ago. For 77% of them, it is not able to bring the French people together (33% of citizens do not even consider it "not at all" unifying).
An increasingly unpopular policy
The middle working classes and retirees are the most decided. The first category mentioned only has a rate of 25% of people evoking a just policy, and 20% able to federate the population. All the electorates of the last presidential election take a dim view of this point of view, except that of Emmanuel Macron. However, in this specific set, disaffection is noticeable: only 46% of supporters of the current Head of State describe the government's orientation as "unifying" and they are also 46% who do not consider it as fair, sentiment up nine points, the largest increase among the surveyed panel.
If we refer again to the table of all respondents, 59% do not think that the current policy can improve the situation of the country, and 57% do not believe that it can revive the economy.
The mobilization of EHPAD workers clearly approved
These bad assessments recorded in the Elysian correspondence book take on all the more resonance as they arise when mobilizations are born in many sectors to challenge the direction taken by the executive. However, Elabe, who also wanted to judge the echo of the various social movements in the country, indicates that if none is frankly rejected by the French, some even arouse broad sympathy.
This is the case of the protest EHPAD staff primarily. They see their mobilization approved (whether it is frank and massive support or a simple expression of sympathy) by 86% of French people. The movement of pensioners raises the benevolence of 81% of voters. These two events even find a very high outright support rate: with percentages of 58% and 55% respectively. Those over 65 are almost entirely on this side: 96% approve of EHPAD staff and 92% retirees.
Railway workers, civil service: the division of the French
It should then be noted that the French neither agree nor clearly reject the other claims. They thus appear as divided but rather favorable to the movement of civil servants, 48% of them showing their support or their sympathy, 38% their opposition or their hostility, 13% their indifference. They are again divided in the chapter of the railroad workers, although this time it is mistrust which prevails. 38% indeed express their support or their sympathy where 49% of those polled affirm their opposition or even their hostility to walkouts in this area. In these last two cases, retirees, whose own movement is therefore surrounded by general approval, are the most hostile: 47% reject the merits of the movement of civil servants and 61% that of mobilization within the SNCF. .
In any case, the social protest inside the railway company is of increasing interest. Compared to a previous Elabe study carried out on March 13 and 14, indifference to this subject fell by ten points, reactions of opposition or hostility rose by six points, those of support by four points.
Government needs to correct course, say respondents
In all coherence with the feelings stated above, the French call, in this opinion poll, the government to correct the situation. They are thus 65% to declare that with regard to the reforms, the government must, in the weeks and months to come, review the orientation of its current policy. 34% of people believe, on the other hand, that he must maintain his attitude. The working classes and voters living in rural areas are the most clearly inclined to weigh in the direction of the reorientation of the executive agenda, with rates of 72% and 71% respectively. Contrary to the drawn spectrum, the frames are the most favorable to the status quo: 56% are thus resistant to change in government policy.
Sample of 1000 people representative of the French population aged 18 and over. The representativeness of the sample was ensured according to the quota method applied to the following variables: sex, age and profession of the interviewee after stratification by region and category of agglomeration. Interview by Internet on March 20 and 21, 2018.
