700.000 motorists drive without a license in France (La Dépêche)

Almost 1 million..., and the lack of license often goes hand in hand with the lack of insurance. Listen, I who don't drive a lot, I already see some pretty strange things, so I can only urge you to be careful. People are becoming more and more irresponsible, and I think that's in tune with the times. Also, you, anticipate, slow down at intersections, be paranoid! An accident happens so quickly and often for nonsense. And now, you have to reckon with people who have never even passed the license, and therefore who do not know the Highway Code! I also advise you to use Waze, it warns you in the event of a slowdown and even of a vehicle on the side (I know, it consumes a lot of battery, but a small cigarette lighter to USB adapter with a telephone charging cable, and you're in peace). For the rest, frankly, a fine of €15.000 for a license defect is ridiculous, apparently not enough of a deterrent. Me personally, I would put prison sentences... 3 months for lack of license, 6 months in jail for lack of license and insurance, and 35.0000 € fine (which would go directly to the fund which compensates the victims of speeders without insurance), it would make them think... (and I've already had my license revoked, well, I've managed. Carpooling or public transport, but I've never taken my car during these withdrawal periods).

Lack of License 08 04 2019

The number of drivers who drive without a valid driving license has more than doubled in 10 years. Two-thirds have never passed.

The number sends shivers down your spine. You may have come across some today while taking your children to school or this weekend while going to lunch with the family. 680.000 motorists drive without a driving license, according to figures from Road Safety, quoted by RTL.

They were "only" 300.000 ten years ago. Their number has therefore more than doubled since 2009 to approach 700.000 today. Two-thirds have never passed the driving test and mention its cost to justify themselves. It must be said that the driving license costs 1500 € on average in France, with figures which vary according to the regions.

The other third of the drivers concerned had their license withdrawn by the police or gradually lost their number of points. Surprisingly, in 2017, only 120 drivers saw themselves deprived of the precious sesame, because they had lost their 12 points, point by point, due to an accumulation of minor infractions. A majority of motorists have therefore committed one or more serious offences.

4,5% of fatal accidents

Motorists without a license represent 1,4% of drivers according to Road Safety but they were involved in 4,5% of fatal accidents. Driving without a license is punishable by a fine of €15.000 and one year in prison.

In the region, in recent months, several drivers without a license and often drunk and speeding have been arrested : a 39-year-old man in Toulouse this fall, a 26-year-old man who had been driving without a license for 8 years in Pamiers in Ariège or a man of the same age who had even hit a policeman in Colomiers, near Toulouse, after hitting a sidewalk.
