7 new arrests in Grenoble

The government does not release the pressure on Grenoble...

A police operation took place Tuesday morning in the Villeneuve district.

Seven people were arrested on Tuesday, around 7 a.m., in the popular district of Villeneuve in Grenoble, according to information obtained by Europe1. The operation was carried out by the departmental security as part of the investigation into the recent urban violence of which the district had been the theatre during the month of July. Seven CRS vans intervened for the second operation police in less than a week.

Last Wednesday, four suspects were arrested and then quickly released, on the eve of a visit by Interior Minister Brice Hortefeux. Their arrests took place as part of the investigation into the robbery, in mid-July, of the casino of Uriage-les-Bains (Isère). The death of one of the robbers, Karim Boudouda, 27, shot dead by the police during an exchange of fire, had led to three nights of urban violence in Villeneuve, where the young man was from.

Interior Minister Brice Hortefeux said he wanted to make Grenoble a "symbol" of the fight against crime. He surendered three times in less than a month in the prefecture of Isère. Despite the announcements, the police force did not not been reinforced.
