Remain 45% I understand better the agoravox article taken from by legal news
PARIS (Reuters) - Fifty-five percent of French people want the left to win the next presidential election and both Dominique Strauss-Kahn and Martine Aubry are ahead of Nicolas Sarkozy according to a Viavoice poll.
In this opinion poll to be published on Monday in Liberation, only 35% predicted the victory of the right in 2012, the largest difference since Viavoice asked this question six months ago.
This wish is reinforced by the feeling that the left has the ability to conquer power, since 50% of French people think that the opposition would win if the election were held today, against 41% who are of the same opinion opposite.
The personality most strongly desired to be "the next President of the Republic" is the managing director of the International Monetary Fund Dominique Strauss-Kahn (44%), who benefits from a difference of 20 points compared to the result obtained by Nicolas Sarkozy (24%).
The first secretary of the Socialist Party Martine Aubry comes in second place (31%), followed by Ségolène Royal (25%), who is practically on par with Nicolas Sarkozy.
All the other declared contenders for the position would do less well, such as François Hollande (21%), François Bayrou (18%) and Eva Joly (16%), a score considered high by Viavoice given the very recent nature of his official involvement. .
The left-wing opposition capitalizes on the discredit of the president - only 34% popularity against 58% for Dominique Strauss-Kahn despite the security offensive of the summer.
SKEPTICISM ON THE RESULTS OF AN ALTERNANCE
In addition, the French now trust the PS more than Nicolas Sarkozy to "find effective solutions" for the financing of pensions (50% against 29%), for employment (49% against 27%) and for " respect morality in politics" (44% against 23%), an effect of the Bettencourt-Woerth affair.
"Basically, it is the skein of this triple ordeal which constitutes a major Achilles' heel for Nicolas Sarkozy and his majority, and which pleads in favor of the opposition", writes François Miquet-Marty, associate director from Viavoice.
But the French remain convinced that the right in power is better able to "find effective solutions against insecurity" (43% against 34% in favor of the left).
They are also skeptical about the results to be expected from a political alternation: 57% believe that, "if the left were in power today", "overall" it "would not do better than the right", and only 36% consider that the left in business would improve the situation.
"This refers (...) to the whole history of the left and the disenchantment it may have generated once power was conquered," said the pollster.
This survey was conducted from August 18 to 20 by telephone using the quota method with a sample of 1.003 people, representative of the French population aged 18 and over.
