As for vitamin D, I personally already take small capsules, one a day. You ask your doctor, it's still more pleasant than cod liver oil.
As for probiotics (following the documentary on the belly, our 2e brain), I was just wondering how to rebalance or strengthen the intestinal flora.
Well there you will have the answer. Especially no Activia or nonsense like that. And don't forget fibers which are essential to properly assimilate food (preferably organic and not industrial).
“Stop wasting your money on vitamin supplements! ". That's what you could read in the December issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine magazine. Although this opinion has a solid scientific basis, it does not mean that no supplement does not bring benefits to your health.
Some supplements are indeed worth taking.
The curative nature of the following supplements is not Administrative staff scientifically demonstrated.
. Multivitamins do not reduce the risk of cancer or cardiovascular disease.
. Antioxidants do not offer protection against cancer (although in this case there is no consensus).
✔. Vitamin C does not help prevent colds and chills.
. Supplements containing vitamins A, C, E and beta carotenes can even be harmful to your health and increase the risk of cancer. Although these elements are essential, most people with a good diet get enough of them.
The following supplements, on the other hand, are good for your health:
✔. Vitamin D. Meta-analyses of conflicting studies in 2007 and 2013 showed that this supplement lowers overall mortality in adults. A daily intake of this vitamin protects children against bouts of fever and solidifies bones in the elderly.
✔. Probiotics. The trillions of bacteria present in our body are essential to regulate our health. Fight them with antibiotics can have then§ disastrous consequences. Probiotics (in the form of supplements or natural products like yogurt) stimulate bacteria colonies in the body and can counteract the effects of antibiotics. Except in specific cases, there is no reason to take daily probiotic supplements.
✔. Zinc. Vitamin C cannot prevent colds, but zinc can because it is able to slow down the multiplication of the rhinovirus. A review of 13 studies on this topic (PDF) demonstrated in 2011 that zinc supplements significantly shorten the duration of a cold and calm its symptoms.
✔. Niacin (nicotinic acid or vitamin B3). High doses offer protection against all sorts of ailments, but getting it usually requires a prescription. However, for people with heart problems, over-the-counter niacin supplements may be beneficial because they reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
✔. Garlic. As a concentrated supplement, garlic acts against high blood pressure in a meta-analysis of 11 studies in 2008. Consuming such a dose of this plant undoubtedly lowers the tension, but whether garlic can prevent cancer at the same time is much less clear. On this last point, science has not yet come to a conclusion. (Via: Smithsonian).
