PARIS (Reuters) - The Minister of Finance estimates in the Journal du Dimanche at 28 billion euros the assets held by French taxpayers abroad and "came out of the shadows" for a year thanks to requests for regularization of exiles tax.
"As of July 25, 29.024 requests for regularization have been registered", explains Michel Sapin, according to whom the amount of assets thus confessed to the tax authorities is one million euros per file.
“At this stage, we can therefore estimate that around 28 billion euros held abroad have emerged from the shadows and will increase the tax bases for the future,” he adds.
According to the Minister, the taxes and penalties thus collected in 2014 have reached 1,336 billion euros to date, against one billion in mid-June.
"We are almost certain to reach the objective of 1,8 billion at the end of 2014 and to still have revenue in 2015", declares Michel Sapin, according to whom these receipts will make it possible to finance "without difficulty" the reduction in tax granted this year to low-income households, which will be continued next year.
It invites taxpayers who have not yet declared their assets abroad to do so voluntarily "from now on" because many countries, including Switzerland, have undertaken to reveal hidden accounts in their banks as part of automatic exchange of information procedures.
