The US Secretary of State also confirmed the release of an additional $100 million in humanitarian aid for Syrian refugees.

US Secretary of State John Kerry, who has been meeting on Syria for three days, has officially confirmed the release of an additional $100 million in humanitarian aid for Syrian refugees, nearly half of which will be used to help Jordan coping with the influx of Syrians fleeing this conflict which has lasted 26 months.

US humanitarian aid now totals $510 million, plus $250 million in direct aid to Syrian rebels fighting the Assad regime.

John Kerry said President Bashar al-Assad could not be part of a transitional government. All the parties involved are working "to put in place a transitional government based on consensus, which clearly means for us that the president (Assad) will not participate in a transitional government", John Kerry told the press before meeting the head of Jordanian diplomacy, Nasser Judeh.
