“Work is health” sang Henri Salvador in 1965. Times have certainly changed. The Cegos barometer published on Thursday draws an alarming finding for French employees. According to the study, one in four said they had already suffered a serious psychological problem or moral harassment during their career and more than 40% noted a deterioration in the social climate at work over the past year.
In detail, over the past year, 42% of employees and 50% of managers have noticed a deterioration in the social climate in their company, compared to 34% of directors and human resources managers, according to the 2015 social climate and quality barometer of life at work. Stress continues to be ubiquitous at work for 61% of respondents (56% of employees, 73% of managers). Worse, 78% (83% of employees, 66% of managers) believe that it has a negative impact on their health.
Despite everything, some good news persists: a "satisfactory" micro-climate reigns in teams and between colleagues for 76% of employees. Similarly, 69% appreciate their professional environment (office, noise, working conditions, etc.) and 67% appreciate human relations within the company.
A quarter of the population surveyed said that they had suffered a serious psychological problem such as depression or burnout during their career. The same proportion say they have been the victim of moral harassment. Digital also leads to increasing porosity between work and personal life: 50% of HR managers see it as a negative impact on work-life balance and 45% on workload. Finally, professional equality between men and women is still not there in terms of remuneration for 40% of employees. 50% of women say they are victims.
The vocational training organization interviewed 1 people in July and August, using the quota method: 204 employees, 750 managers and 307 human resources managers from private companies with more than 147 employees.
