This is what Secunia PSI personal inspector offers you. Once installed the PSI version 3.x (free for private use) it will scan all the software installations present and the known flaws, and offers you, in the event of a problem and if it is known, a solution (or a forum to discuss it). If you let it install by default, it will load on startup and after a scan, automatically download updates and install them silently. This in the background, without you having to do anything more... just check from time to time that you are in tune with the alerts and up to date.

Update 15.10.2013 : I have problems on windows 7 64 bits utltimate, and secunia updates are no longer made, (although it works on a 7-bit windows 32, and a 64-bit on an HP machine). While discussing it on the sécunia forum, a charitable soul told me that File Hippo Update Checker, was now in French! and I tried it on a 32-bit and on my 64-bit utilimate and it works fine; ) (good on the other hand you will have to do the updates manually)

I've been using it since almost the start, it's been two years already, and for me it has become unavoidable, especially since it consumes almost no resources and has the good taste of being once again free...

Secunia delivers the final version 2.0 of its freeware Personal Software Inspector. A version that can automatically install software updates.

Secunia-PSI-2Secunia is a Danish company specializing in computer security. In particular, it offers the tool Staff Software Inspector which is free for personal use and helps ensure that none of the software installed on Windows suffers from a security vulnerability.

Beyond the simple verification of the presence of the latest Windows patches, Secunia PSI confronts its analysis with a database of several thousand applications. If necessary, the repatriation of the appropriate security patch is proposed.

Secunia has just released a 2.0 version of Secunia PSI which offers a new user interface, presents the results of an analysis in a different way, offers APIs for developers, integrates with Secunia CSI for professional users.

The main new feature of Secunia PSI 2.0, however, is the integration of an automatic update feature for unsafe or end-of-life programs. These programs can be updated without any user interaction. The option is left to the choice of the user who may prefer the old behavior of PSI.

If this feature is enabled (during installation or through configuration settings), programs that are eligible for automatic updating are labeled AU. This is not the case for all programs, but Secunia highlights among the applications concerned: Flash Player, Java JRE and Adobe Reader.

Note that Secunia PSI 2.0 is installed as a service and is not yet translated into French.
