The management of the Australian Transport Safety Agency (ATSB) has strictly prohibited its employees from revealing information concerning the possible causes of the disappearance of the Malaysian Boeing 777 in 2014. The person “caught at fault” will be punished with two years from prison.
Australian Transport Security Agency (ATSB) personnel face two years in prison for any revelations about the disappearance of the Malaysian Boeing 777 bound for Beijing in 2014, according to information from the Australian newspaper.
In February, the agency declined to release materials on the search for the plane in question, saying "this information could affect international community relations."
Nevertheless, the families of the victims returned their request on the revelation of these data. Subsequently, agency representative Greg Hood announced that this information was protected from public disclosure under the Transportation Safety Accident Investigation Act.
Additionally, he explained that if any current or former agency employee "reveals any information to any person or court" it would be considered a violation of the law and result in a prison sentence of a period of up to two years.
The plane took off on March 8, 2014 from Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) bound for Beijing (China). It was during the transfer of control of the flight from the Malaysian operators to their Vietnamese colleagues that the Boeing 777 interrupted the transmission and disconnected all its reconnaissance equipment. The aircraft changed course and altitude several times before heading towards the Indian Ocean. It is assumed that the plane hit the surface of the water after exhausting its fuel reserves. Its 239 passengers have disappeared.
Searches organized by Australia, China and Malaysia in the southern Indian Ocean were unsuccessful, despite several changes of areas.
In January 2015, Malaysian authorities officially recognized all the passengers of flight MH370 as having died following an “accident”.
This January, Australian, Malaysian and Chinese officials issued a statement on the Search Coordination Center (JACC) website that the parties had suspended the search for the aircraft.
