The total cost of a place in a nursing home is estimated at 34.707 euros per year in 2012 including the care services provided by establishments and by city medicine, i.e. 2892 euros per month, according to a study published Thursday 3 april.
This cost is borne by the residents or their families, the general councils and the health insurance.
This estimate was established by the Directorate General for Social Cohesion (DGCS) and by the National Solidarity Fund for Autonomy, during a survey conducted between June and October 2013 among 50 accommodation establishments for dependent elderly people. (Ehpad), representative of the diversity of legal statuses and tariff options.
A third of the total related to care
The costs related to the care provided represent a third of the total, ie 11.844 euros, of which 2007 are city care financed by health insurance. Costs related to hotels (11.616 euros) also represent a third of the total, while support in acts of daily life represents a quarter (8500 euros) and expenses related to social ties 8% (2745 euros) .
In order to confirm these results, a second survey on 2013 costs should be conducted between June and October next from a larger sample. A national study will then be carried out with data from 2015 to determine an average daily cost by type of resident.
