It took a whole year, but lockdowns and mask mandates are officially incredibly unpopular in half the country, to the point that governors are rapidly changing their year-long COVID-19 policy.
Following in the footsteps of pro-individual freedom leaders like Governors Ron DeSantis (R-Florida) and Kristi Noem (R-SD), the governors of Mississippi and Texas moved on Tuesday to announce an end to restrictions commercial and statewide mask mandates.
Tate Reeves (R-MS) and Greg Abbott (R-TX), who had long taken a "nanny state" approach to the COVID-19 crisis, acted almost simultaneously to announce the end of nationwide restrictions of State.
I just announced Texas is OPEN 100%.

EVERYTHING.
I also ended the statewide mask mandate.
Starting tomorrow, we are lifting all of our county mask mandates and businesses will be able to operate at full capacity without any state-imposed rules. Our hospitalizations and case numbers have plummeted, and the vaccine is being rapidly distributed. It's time!

Centrally planned solutions for COVID-19 have failed spectacularly, and the American people have come to realize this reality. Hundreds of millions of people have now experienced a full year of government-imposed tyranny, both federal and state. Whether it's a travel ban, an endless series of shutdowns, mask mandates, countless emergency orders, business closures and the like, not a single top-down order down at the federal or state level has done anything productive for the welfare of Americans.
None of this worked. It was all negative. People noticed it.
Now that their constituents have had enough, right-wing politicians are rapidly moving away from the tyranny of COVID and trying to secure what remains of their political aspirations.
Abbott and Reeves aren't the only GOP governors rushing to end the restrictions, several other governors have recently moved to roll them back.

On February 22, North Dakota took another step. Its legislature took the bold step of voting to make mask mandates illegal.

Since March 2, 16 States no longer have statewide mask orders.
However, beyond the political divides, the corona madness has not yet ended. Much of the left continues to buy into and entrench itself in the endless restrictions of COVID-19 and the hijacking of individual rights in the name of a virus.
California Governor Gavin Newsom described the ending of restrictions on Twitter as "absolutely reckless".

It's taken long enough, but it's now official: Governors who continue to impose lockdowns and mask mandates are quickly becoming as popular as Red Sox fans in the stands at Yankee Stadium, at least in half the country. The internal ballot is over, and the draconian restrictions are being dropped en masse. History will not be kind to the last proponents of independence.
