On the sidelines of the July 14 parade, the inventor of the flying machine called Flyboard Air gave a demonstration on Place de la Concorde. The aircraft, spotted by the Minister of the Armed Forces, benefited from a subsidy of 1,3 million euros.

Emmanuel Macron and foreign leaders from the grandstand of the July 14 parade were able to witness an astonishing demonstration of hoverboards. The machine, baptized Flyboard Air by its inventor Franky Zapata, took off quickly from Place de la Concorde.

A demonstration took place as part of the first Fair Defense Innovations in November 2018, in the presence of the Minister for the Armed Forces, Florence Parly, and Mounir Mahjoubi, then Secretary of State for Digital Affairs. "Our army must always be at the forefront of innovation," he commented on Twitter.

According Le Parisien, the army had decided to grant a grant of 1,3 million euros to its inventor in order to perfect his futuristic aircraft. Ironically, in 2017, Franky Zapata had been summoned by the gendarmes who had served him the ban to use his device in the creeks west of Marseille, under penalty of prosecution.
