hello, let's have a little look at the news together if you want. It's not that I want to underestimate international news, which is rich and which you can consult here, But while I was telling you about theArkansas and its earthquakes, this sheds a completely different light on the position taken by Quebec with regard to shale gas, which is emblematic. Exactly, while the debate rages in France, operation out of all logic (20% yield, 80% waste and pollution!) of this technology should alarm the crowds... This is why I logically suggest this article from MaxiSciences in an attempt to inform you. Also, if you are sensitive to my arguments, don't forget to show your disapproval by signing this Online petition.
Shale gas: explanations. by nonaugasschist07
120 researchers and professors from several Quebec universities gathered to protest against the exploitation of shale gas in the French-speaking Canadian province. All are calling for a moratorium, which they consider to be a "emergency measure".
Three years ago, large reserves of gas of shale have been discovered in the St. Lawrence Valley. Several firms then obtained authorization to explore them, and around thirty wells were dug. Due to the concerns of environmentalists and local residents about the dangerousness of theexploitation of this gas locked up in permeable rocks, the province's Minister of the Environment, Pierre Arcand, commissioned a report from the Bureau d'audiences publiques en environnement (BAPE), which launched a major consultation last fall on the subject. A study whose conclusions have just been published, advocating further environmental assessment.
"Quebec must deepen technical and scientific expertise, particularly in terms of geology, hydro-geology, wastewater treatment, land use planning and harmonious cohabitation with the population.", underlined the minister, quoted by the Figaro. But Quebec researchers united in a collective are asking for more. They are calling for a moratorium prohibiting the exploitation of shale gas in the province, a sector which does not "meets no acceptability criteria“, they believe in a press release reported by the site Cyberpress. The technique used to extract this gas, hydraulic fracturing, "affects the quality of water and air and poses risks to the health and safety of populations and ecosystems. It turns out to be unprofitable and could even be expensive for our society" warn scientists.
This method is already practiced in the United States and Canada, where it creates controversy, and also raises concerns in France where authorizations for prospecting were granted almost a year ago by the Ministry of the Environment. The latter has just suspended these authorizations, pending the conclusions of a study on the environmental impact of the exploitation of shale gas, aimed at determining whether or not it is possible to use a method of clean extraction.
